It is a local favorite because the massive, mature pecan and oak trees create a thick canopy that blocks out harsh sunlight. This allows us to capture gorgeous, intimate portraits with deep visual textures and beautiful rich green tones, all while staying cool and shaded.

What to Expect & Best Time of Day


Because Pfluger Park offers such excellent tree coverage, it is actually incredibly forgiving with timing. While Golden Hour (just before sunset) is always magical, the heavy tree canopy allows us to shoot slightly earlier in the afternoon without worrying about harsh, unflattering sun shadows on your faces.The park features a mixture of flat, easy-to-walk grassy lawns and paved trails. If you want to adventure down into the Gilleland Creek bed for those iconic Austin-area stone wall photos, just keep in mind that the terrain becomes rocky and uneven—so it is best for older kids, couples, and seniors!

  • Where to Park: The main, dedicated paved parking lot is located right off City Park Road (near the main playground and pavilion area). Parking is entirely free and very easy to access.


  • Restrooms: Developed public brick restroom facilities are available right next to the main parking lot and playground area. They are clean and perfect if you need a quick spot to change outfits for a maternity or senior session.


  • Permit Fees: There are no commercial photography permit fees or entry tickets required to shoot standard family or portrait sessions at this city park.


  • Pro-Tip: Because of the beautiful creek and the deep, shaded woods, the mosquitos can get quite active during the warmer months! I always recommend packing a quick can of bug spray in your bag to keep the kids comfortable during the shoot.
